Learning Objectives
Indicator: B7.1.1.2.2 - Identify and follow a range of utterances, vocabulary and instructions related to common birds and insects.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify by ear the Arabic words for at least five common birds (such as عُصْفُور sparrow, دِيك rooster, حَمَامَة pigeon, غُرَاب crow, بَطَّة duck) when they hear them in a sentence.
- Identify by ear the Arabic words for at least five common insects (such as نَمْلَة ant, ذُبَابَة fly, عَنْكَبُوت spider, نَحْلَة bee, فَرَاشَة butterfly) when they hear them in a sentence.
- Follow simple spoken instructions that contain bird and insect names, such as “أَشِرْ إِلَى العُصْفُور” (Point to the sparrow) and “اِرْفَعْ يَدَكَ عِنْدَ سَمَاعِ النَّحْلَة” (Raise your hand when you hear “bee”).
- Match spoken words for birds and insects to the correct picture or action by responding physically (pointing, touching, drawing, or acting out the action).
- Distinguish the sounds of similar bird and insect words in Arabic, such as دِيك (rooster) and دَجَاجَة (hen), and use them correctly in response to aural prompts.
