Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.2.1.1.1 - Discuss the importance of prayer in our lives.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define prayer as communication between a worshipper and the object of worship.
  2. Identify and describe at least three types of prayer practised in Christianity, Islam and Traditional African Religion.
  3. Explain at least three reasons why prayer is important in our daily lives.
  4. Demonstrate how prayer is performed in each of the three major religions in Ghana with respect and accuracy.
  5. Reflect on how prayer builds personal qualities such as humility, gratitude, faithfulness and togetherness.

- Guide learners to discuss the meaning of prayer: a communication between the worshipper and the object of worship.
- Let learners talk about the types of prayer:
Christianity - thanksgiving, intercession, supplication, confession, etc.
Islam - Salat (five daily compulsory prayers), congregational (Ju`mah), etc.
Traditional - thanksgiving, intercession, supplication, confession, etc.
- Lead learners to discuss the importance of prayer:
  - brings us closer to God,
  - it shows our dependence on God, etc.
- Ask learners to demonstrate how prayer is performed in the three major religions.
