Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.2.5.2.5 - Identify opportunities to pass or dribble while being guarded (offense and defense).

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explain what it means to be guarded and identify when they are being guarded by an opponent.
  2. Demonstrate how to keep their body between the opponent and the ball when in possession.
  3. Identify and state at least two situations when passing is a better choice than dribbling while being guarded.
  4. Dribble a ball in a zigzag manner to move away from a defender.
  5. Apply basic offensive and defensive strategies in a small-sided game and explain their choices.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

After general and specific warm-ups, guide learners to keep their body between opponent and the ball. Let them possess the ball in the opponents playing grounds. Dribble in a zigzag manner. Instruct them to pass the ball to their teammates when they are free.
