Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.1.6.1.7 - Strike a tossed ball with the hands above the forehead (tennis serve).

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Demonstrate the correct stance and toss for an overhead strike, holding the ball in the non-striking hand and tossing it straight up above the forehead.
  2. Strike a self-tossed ball with the palm or fist above the forehead, sending it toward a target at least 3 metres away.
  3. Perform the overhead strike with accuracy, hitting a target zone (hoop or marked square) at least 3 out of 5 attempts.
  4. Apply the tennis serve technique in a mini volleyball game, serving the ball over a net or rope to begin play.
  5. Demonstrate patience, focus and teamwork while taking turns and encouraging classmates during practice.

Organize learners with volleyballs facing a target. Learners toss a ball and strike it with the palm or fist (overhead) to a target base on their ability. Learners practice over hanged net (optional) by striking a tossed ball over it to the target for mastery of tennis serve. Learners play mini volleyball starting with tennis serve.
