Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.5.1.2.1 - Investigate the effects of climate change on the environment

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define greenhouse gases and identify at least four examples, including carbon dioxide, methane, water vapour and nitrous oxide.
  2. Explain how human activities such as bush burning and fumes from vehicles increase the concentration of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere.
  3. Describe at least three effects of climate change on the environment, covering rainfall patterns, temperature, agriculture and health.
  4. Suggest practical ways human beings can adapt to climate change in their own communities.
  5. Work collaboratively in groups to present findings on climate change effects and adaptation strategies.

Use video clips, field trips and pictures to help learners identify the effects of over concentration of greenhouse gases and climate change on the environment e.g. change in rainfall pattern, change in temperature, agriculture, health.
