By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Define a political party and explain its purpose in simple terms.
Identify the year and founding members of the United Gold Coast Convention (UGCC) and the Convention People’s Party (CPP).
Describe at least two specific roles played by leaders such as Kwame Nkrumah, J.B. Danquah, Obetsebi Lamptey, Ako Adjei, William Ofori Atta and Edward Akuffo Addo in the independence struggle.
Explain how the “Big Six” got their name and who belonged to this group.
Retell the events of the independence eve rally and the declaration of independence on 6 March 1957.
