Indicator: B6.4.4.1.1 - Describe the features of British colonial rule in Ghana including ‘direct’ and ‘indirect’ rule, 1874-1957.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Define ‘direct rule’ and ‘indirect rule’ in their own words, giving at least one distinguishing feature of each system.
Compare and contrast direct and indirect rule by identifying at least two similarities and two differences between them.
State the number of provinces created in the Gold Coast colony and name at least two of them.
Explain at least one advantage and one disadvantage of each system of colonial rule.
Demonstrate how indirect rule worked in the Gold Coast through a short role play or dramatisation.
