Learning Objectives
Indicator: B6.4.4.1.1 - Describe the features of British colonial rule in Ghana including ‘direct’ and ‘indirect’ rule, 1874-1957.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define ‘direct rule’ and ‘indirect rule’ in their own words, giving at least one distinguishing feature of each system.
- Compare and contrast direct and indirect rule by identifying at least two similarities and two differences between them.
- State the number of provinces created in the Gold Coast colony and name at least two of them.
- Explain at least one advantage and one disadvantage of each system of colonial rule.
- Demonstrate how indirect rule worked in the Gold Coast through a short role play or dramatisation.
