Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.3.4.1.1 - Assess the changes that the European presence brought to Ghana.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least four changes that the European presence brought to Ghana, including formal education, health facilities, trade activities, and the development of the local alphabet.
  2. Explain how the introduction of formal education affected the lives of Ghanaian people, both positively and negatively.
  3. Describe the health facilities introduced by the Europeans and state their effects on the wellbeing of Ghanaians.
  4. Discuss the negative effects of European presence on Ghana, including the loss of culture and exploitation of resources.
  5. Present and defend a personal opinion on whether the European presence was more beneficial or harmful to Ghana, using evidence from the lesson.
