Learning Objectives
Indicator: B6.5.6.1.1 - Use adverbs to express degree and reason
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify adverbs of degree and adverbs of reason in given sentences and short passages.
- Explain the difference between adverbs of degree (which tell how much or to what extent) and adverbs of reason (which tell why something happens).
- Use adverbs of degree (such as too, very, so, quite, almost, completely, enough) correctly in sentences of their own.
- Use adverbs of reason (such as because, since, as, therefore, so that) correctly in sentences of their own.
- Write a short paragraph of at least four sentences that includes both adverbs of degree and adverbs of reason.

- Revise adverbs of time and manner in context: Have learners listen to and read several sentences containing adverbs of time and manner. - Use drills and games to provide practice in using adverbs of time. E.g. Game: Lucky Dip Drill: Substitution Table Drill - Learners sit in groups to discuss issues involving use of adverbs of time. - Repeat the procedure to introduce adverbs of degree and reason. e.g. Degree: The shirt is too small for me. You are making so much noise. Reason: I sing because I like singing. - Have groups construct short paragraphs using such adverbs.
