By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Explain the difference between skimming (reading quickly for the general idea) and scanning (reading quickly to find specific information).
Skim a level-appropriate text in 3 to 4 minutes and state the main idea in one or two sentences.
Scan the same text to locate specific details such as names, dates, places, and numbers.
Present their findings from skimming and scanning to the class using clear spoken sentences.
Use skimming and scanning as a regular first step before reading a text closely for full comprehension.
