Learning Objectives
Indicator: B6.2.6.4.2 - Recognise the playful use of words in spoken and written language (jokes, riddles, puns)
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify at least three examples of playful language (jokes, riddles or puns) in a given text or spoken conversation.
- Explain how a pun works by identifying the two meanings of the key word or phrase.
- Solve simple riddles and explain the wordplay or logic behind the answer.
- Create original jokes, riddles or puns of their own using their knowledge of word meanings from previous lessons (synonyms, antonyms, compound words).
- Work in pairs or groups to perform a short wordplay game for the class, showing appropriate use of words for the audience and context.
