Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.2.6.1.2 - Use the following terms: compound words, idiom, simile, synonym, antonym, pre-fix, suffix, phrasal verb etc. in spoken and written expressions

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define each of the seven vocabulary terms (compound word, idiom, simile, synonym, antonym, prefix, suffix, phrasal verb) in their own words.
  2. Identify at least five of the terms correctly when given example sentences or short texts.
  3. Match pairs of synonyms and antonyms correctly in a matching activity.
  4. Construct one original sentence for each of the seven terms, using the term appropriately in spoken or written expression.
  5. Work in pairs to identify vocabulary terms in a shared reading text and explain their meanings to a partner.
