Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.1.8.2.1 - Use positive tags, negative tags and auxiliaries in speech

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Identify the auxiliary verb in a statement and use it to form a correct question tag.
  • Form positive question tags after negative statements (e.g. “She isn’t ready, is she?”) and negative question tags after positive statements (e.g. “She is ready, isn’t she?”).
  • Use the correct intonation, rising for genuine questions and falling for confirmation, when speaking question tags.
  • Ask and answer simple questions using positive tags, negative tags and auxiliaries in pair work.
  • Correct themselves and others when a question tag does not match the auxiliary and polarity of the main statement.
