Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.2.2.2.2 - Brainstorm and generate ideas for creating own performing artworks that reflect the physical and social environments of some communities in the world

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify and describe at least three features of the physical and social environments of communities in the world studied (for example, Japan, Brazil, Kenya, or the United Kingdom).
  2. Brainstorm and record at least five original ideas for movement patterns, rhythms, sounds, or lyrics inspired by the physical and social environments of these communities.
  3. Select and arrange one set of ideas to present a short performance concept (movement, sound, or rhythm) for peer review.
  4. Give at least one piece of constructive feedback on a peer’s concept and apply at least one piece of feedback received to improve their own arrangement.
  5. Explain in one or two sentences how their own performance concept connects to the physical or social environment of the community that inspired it.

Position in sequence: This lesson opens Term 2 and builds on Term 1 Week 12 (B6.2.2.2.1), where learners experimented with media and techniques. It focuses on brainstorming and idea generation only. The actual creation of complete artworks is scheduled for B6.2.2.3.2 in Term 2, Week 5, and global topical issues come in B6.2.2.2.3 (Term 2, Week 1, later in the week) and B6.2.2.3.3 (Term 2, Week 6). This lesson therefore stops at the concept and idea stage; it does not move into full composition or performance.
