Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.2.1.1.5

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Identify at least four topical global issues reflected in the performances of international performing artists studied in previous weeks.
  • Describe how a specific performance by an international artist communicates a topical issue (e.g. war, racism, corruption) through its type, theme, technique, rhythm, style, instruments, movement patterns, or costumes.
  • Discuss, in small groups, the relationship between a performance’s artistic elements and the global issue it addresses.
  • Compare two different international performances that address the same or different global issues, explaining how each artist’s choices convey meaning.
  • Appreciate the works of international performing artists by expressing informed opinions on the purpose and effectiveness of the artworks studied.

- select compositions and performance of international performing artists that reflect current topical issues of much concern in the world (e.g. war, racism, terrorism, corruption, rights and responsibilities of road users, counterfeiting, intellectual property rights, sakawa or digital fraud);
- discuss the works in relation to the topical global issues (concepts);
- appreciate: talk about the works based on the type, theme/purpose, technique, rhythm, style, instruments, movement patterns, costumes, etc.
