Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.1.1.1.1

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Identify at least five international visual artists by name, country of origin, and type of artworks they create.
Describe, in simple terms, how the artworks of at least two international artists reflect the history and culture of their communities.
Discuss the link between an artist’s life experiences and the themes they explore in their work, using specific examples.
Write a brief profile of one chosen international artist using the seven guidelines provided (name, country, training, type of artworks, titles of works, preferred media, and contribution to art).
Present their findings to the class orally, demonstrating clear communication and thoughtful response to questions from peers.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Learners are to:
- use OERs (e.g. library, videos, Facebook, internet) to study and share the artworks of some international visual artists (e.g. Meshack Asare, Zingaro, Leonardo, Michelangelo, Picasso, El-Anatsui, Kara Walker, Ibrahim Mahama, Rebecca Horn);
- discuss the works of the international artists studied in relation to the history and cultures of some communities in the world. For example, Ibrahim Mahama uses the transformation of materials to explore among other themes the issue of migration and the socio-economic and cultural heritage of a people;
- writing a brief about their choice of artist using the following guidelines:
- Name
- Country of origin
- Training
- Type of artworks
- Title of some works
- Preferred Media
- Contribution to the development of art.
