Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B6.6.9.1.2 - Devise various techniques on how to protect oneself from online identity theft.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Explain what online identity theft is and describe at least three ways thieves steal personal information online.
- Create a strong password or passphrase using at least four different character types.
- Demonstrate the steps to set up two-factor authentication on a typical social media or email account.
- Identify common phishing tricks and state the rule for spotting suspicious links or messages.
- Devise a personal “online safety checklist” with at least five protective techniques to guard against identity theft.
This lesson builds on the previous slot (B6.6.9.1.1) where learners handled private and personal information. It stays focused on protection techniques and does not move into the debate on spam messages (B6.6.9.1.3) or virtual versus real friends (B6.6.9.1.4), which come later.
