Learning Objectives
Indicator: B5.4.4.1.1 - Participate in transplanting seedlings
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Explain why seedlings must be watered before transplanting and why transplanting is done at the right time.
- Prepare a garden bed, pot, tray, or container with fertile soil, correct spacing holes, and water ready for receiving seedlings.
- Demonstrate the correct use of a hand trowel to lift seedlings from a seedbed and a dibber to make holes at the correct depth.
- Transplant seedlings into prepared beds or containers using the correct technique without damaging the roots.
- Visit transplanted seedlings daily, record the number of leaves and height, and use the records to write a simple weekly growth report.

Learners prepare plant house or garden boxes/pots/trays, containers or garden beds for transplanting. Fill with fertile soil or plant medium; make holes at correct spacing and water ready for seedlings. Ensure that seedlings are ready for transplanting. Water seedlings before transplanting. Use the right tools e.g. hand trowel to lift seedlings from seedbed, use dibber to make holes at the right depth. Transplant seedlings in boxes/pots/trays, containers or garden beds. Visit transplanted seedlings daily to record number of leaves and height (growth) of transplanted seedlings. Use record to write weekly report
