B5 French · Term 1, Week 1

Saluer et prendre congé

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B5.1.1.3.1 - Lire et comprendre un texte, regarder une image qui décrit une scène de personnes qui se saluent

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Read a short French text or speech-bubble image showing people greeting each other and identify who is greeting whom.
  • Match written French greetings (Bonjour, Salut, Bonsoir) and farewells (Au revoir, À demain, Bonne nuit) to the correct pictures or situations shown in images.
  • Answer simple comprehension questions in English or French (with support) about a greeting scene, such as what time of day it is or who is speaking.
  • Sequence a set of picture cards based on a short greeting text they have read.
  • Create a simple speech-bubble caption for an image of people greeting, using the greetings they have read and understood.

This lesson follows the listening and speaking work from B5.1.1.1.1 and B5.1.1.2.1 in Term 1, Week 1, so learners already recognise and say greetings. This lesson focuses on reading and understanding them in written form, preparing them for the writing task in B5.1.1.4.1 next week.
