Learning Objectives

Indicator: B5.5.2.1.1 - Use punctuations: - (the comma) to write an address; - (the apostrophe) in contraction

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Identify the comma and the apostrophe in given sentences and explain what each punctuation mark does in the sentence.
Punctuate a given address correctly using the comma to separate the street name from the town or city.
Form contractions by joining two words with an apostrophe (e.g., cannot to can’t, do not to don’t).
Write a complete address of their home or school using commas correctly.
Punctuate a short unpunctuated passage by adding commas in addresses and apostrophes in contractions.

- Revise the use of the comma before and after "Yes" and "No" in sentences; after addressing a person, e.g. Kofi, can you help me?
- Introduce the use of the comma to write an address, and the apostrophe in contraction in context. Provide sample sentences/texts for learners to identify the target punctuations. Introduce one punctuation at a time
e.g. I live at Adu Street, Adukrom. They can't do the work.
- Have learners practise using the comma to write an address, and the apostrophe in contraction. Give pairs of learners unpunctuated sentences/texts to punctuate.
