Learning Objectives

Indicator: B5.4.12.1.1 - Use descriptive words/expressions/sound devices/ figurative language to describe places, personal experiences and events.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify descriptive words, sensory details, similes and metaphors in a given passage about a familiar place or event.
  2. Brainstorm sensory details (sight, sound, smell, touch, taste) for a chosen place, personal experience or event.
  3. Write a short descriptive paragraph (about 6 to 8 sentences) using at least two descriptive adjectives, one sensory detail and one simile or metaphor.
  4. Revise a partner’s descriptive paragraph by suggesting at least one additional descriptive word or sensory detail.
  5. Present a descriptive paragraph aloud to the class with clear expression and confidence.
