- Writing as a Process (4.9)
- Content standard
- B5.4.9.3 - Apply strategies for improving drafts for publishing
- Indicator
- B5.4.9.3.2 - Edit/proofread draft, checking capitalisation, usage of punctuation and spelling The document prints this indicator's code as "B4.4.9.3.2" - a B4 code inside the BASIC 5 section. It sits between B5.4.9.3.1 (printed p.127) and B5.4.9.3.3 (printed p.128) under the content standard cell "B5.4.9.3: Apply strategies for improving drafts for publishing", and its own first exemplar refers back to "B5 4.9.3.1". B4 has a different indicator of its own at B4.4.9.3.2 (printed p.52, "Proofread draft, checking capitalisation, usage, punctuation and spelling"). It is transcribed here as B5.4.9.3.2 so that it files under its own grade and standard, which the validator and the importer both key off; the printed digits are recorded in this marker and the change needs a human decision, not just a spot check.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
- Have learners pick up their clean draft (Refer to B5 4.9.3.1) and check for conventions. E.g. errors in capitalisation, punctuation and spelling. Tips for learners i. Do my sentences have proper punctuation? E.g. full stop, question mark, exclamation mark. ii. Have I used commas correctly? iii. Do my sentences start with capital letters? iv. Have I capitalised proper nouns? - Have learners do peer editing. - Have them prepare neat final copies. - Guide them to proofread the final copies before publishing.
