B5 English Language · Term 2, Week 6
Silent Reading
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B5.2.8.1.3 - Answer questions based on the passage read
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Read a level-appropriate passage silently and independently.
- Answer literal questions that ask for information directly stated in the passage.
- Answer inferential questions that require thinking about what is implied but not directly said.
- Pose their own questions about a passage and answer questions posed by a peer.
- Give reasons for their answers by pointing to specific parts of the text.
This lesson builds on the work done in Term 2, Week 5, where learners practised inferring meaning from texts (B5.2.8.1.1) and finding the meaning of words in context (B5.2.8.1.2). This week, learners put those skills to use by answering questions of different types about what they have read silently.
