Learning Objectives

Indicator: B5.2.7.3.1 - Use knowledge of prefixes and suffixes to read and interpret unfamiliar words.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify common prefixes (un-, re-, mis-, dis-, pre-) and suffixes (-ful, -less, -ly, -er, -ness) in given words.
  2. Use the meaning of a prefix or suffix to figure out and explain the meaning of an unfamiliar word in a sentence.
  3. Read aloud unfamiliar words containing prefixes and suffixes with reasonable accuracy and confidence.
  4. Construct their own sentences using words formed with prefixes and suffixes correctly.
  5. Demonstrate personal development by working independently and in pairs to solve word puzzles, showing perseverance when a word is challenging.
