Learning Objectives

Indicator: B5.1.10.1.1 - Demonstrate awareness of the features of spoken language, e.g. use of discourse markers - well, also, finally

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define discourse markers and identify at least three examples (well, also, finally) in spoken sentences.
  2. Explain why speakers use discourse markers to organise their ideas and connect thoughts.
  3. Use the discourse markers “well,” “also,” and “finally” correctly in short spoken responses and sentences.
  4. Identify contractions (e.g., can’t, won’t, I’m) and ellipsis (leaving out words) in spoken examples.
  5. Produce a short spoken presentation of 3 to 4 sentences that includes at least two discourse markers, one contraction, and one example of ellipsis.
