Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B5.1.9.1.2 - Make and respond to polite requests for help from familiar adults

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the key words and phrases used when making polite requests, such as “please”, “may I”, “could you” and “would you mind”.
  2. Make at least three different polite requests for help from a familiar adult, using appropriate tone and body language.
  3. Respond politely to requests, using expressions such as “Yes, you may”, “Of course” and “Certainly”.
  4. Distinguish between a polite request and a demand or command, explaining why politeness matters when speaking to adults.
  5. Role-play a short scene in which they request help from a familiar adult and receive a polite response.

This lesson builds directly on Week 7, where learners practised giving commands and instructions. In this lesson, they learn the softer, more respectful form of asking that is used with familiar adults.
