By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Identify the main idea of a short story read aloud by the teacher.
  • List at least three key details that support the main idea of the story.
  • Give one specific example from the story that helps reveal an important point.
  • Draw a reasonable conclusion from the main idea, key details and examples, stating what they think happened next or what the story teaches.
  • Justify their conclusion by pointing to at least one key detail or example from the text.
