Learning Objectives

Indicator: B5.2.1.1.6 - Brainstorm to generate ideas for creating own compositions and performances that reflect topical issues in Africa

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. identify at least three topical issues currently of concern in Africa from a class brainstorm and discussion.
  2. generate at least five original ideas for a composition or performance that reflects one chosen topical issue in Africa.
  3. record their ideas in a simple portfolio using jotting, drawings, or voice notes on available devices.
  4. present their brainstormed ideas to peers for feedback using clear speaking and respectful listening.
  5. revise their initial ideas based on peer and teacher feedback, selecting one strong idea to develop further.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Learners are to:
- learn about current topical issues of much concern in Africa using available OERs, e.g. libraries, internet, audio-visuals, and other social media;
- create portfolios by using any of the following: a) downloading videos and other related documents from the internet; b) jotting down simple notes and statements; c) recording sound/voice messages, etc.;
- make presentations for class discussions and peer review for formative assessment (assessment as/of learning);
- reflect on feedback from class discussions, peer reviews and formative assessment to generate concepts for designing and making own artworks that will reflect current topical issues of much concern in Africa.
