Learning Objectives
Indicator: B5.2.1.1.1 - Explore and study some compositions and performances of Ghanaian and other African performing artists living in Africa and discuss how their works reflect the history and culture of the people of Africa
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Name at least three Ghanaian performing artists and three other African performing artists who live and work in Africa.
- Discuss in small groups how the compositions and performances of at least two selected artists reflect the history and culture of the people of Africa.
- Identify the type of compositions and performances (music, dance, drama, poetry, storytelling or film) produced by at least two studied artists.
- Write a brief profile of one African performing artist of their choice, using the guidelines given: name, country of origin, training, type of works, titles of some works, and style.
- Use digital and library sources to gather information about an African performing artist and present their findings to the class.

Learners are to: - Study the compositions and performances of Ghanaian and other African performing artists (e.g. Salif Keita, Angelique Kidjo, Chinua Achebe, Jack Mapanje, Dada Masilo, Anton Robert Krueger, Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba, Asabea Cropper, John Okafor, OsitaIkema) by a) gathering information through OERs: library studies, internet surfing recorded videos, documentaries and other social media, as well as visits to recording studios, theatre, festival, cultural performances, concert parties, For example, 'Things fall Apart' by Chinua Achebe, and 'Shaka the Zulu' a South African television series was written by Joshua Sinclair and directed by William C. Faure; b) appreciate: discuss the compositions and performances of selected artists and find out how their works reflect the history and culture of Africans; c) write a brief about any of the artists of their choice using the following guidelines: - Name - Country of origin - Training - Type of compositions and performances - Title of some works - Style.
