Learning Objectives

Indicator: B2.1.9.1.2 - Make and respond to polite requests

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the polite words and phrases used in making requests, such as “please,” “could you,” “do you mind,” and “may I.”
  2. Make a polite request using “please” or “could you” in response to a given situation.
  3. Respond politely to a request using appropriate phrases such as “Yes, of course,” “Sure,” or “I am sorry, I cannot.”
  4. Demonstrate making and responding to polite requests in a pair role-play based on everyday classroom and home situations.
  5. Explain why using “please” and other polite words matters in everyday communication.

- Discuss polite requests using examples.
e. g. Can you hold the bag?
- Discuss words used in polite requests.
e.g. Please, could you…, do you mind….May I…
- Have learners take turns to make and respond to polite requests using the word, "please".
- Discuss the importance of the word, "please", in making requests.
