Indicator: B1.5.2.1.1 - Identify some common diseases that affect the skin and their causes

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Name at least five common skin diseases found in their community, such as heat rashes, measles, eczema, ringworm, and chicken pox
  • Match each skin disease to its main cause using simple pictures or descriptions
  • Explain in their own words why some skin diseases spread easily among children
  • Demonstrate at least two ways to prevent common skin diseases through role play
  • Identify the signs of a skin disease on a picture or a classmate’s description

- Engage learners to watch pictures and videos or tell a story on common skin diseases
- Learners into groups name some common skin diseases that affect people in their communities, e.g. heat rashes, measles, eczema, ringworm, chicken pox etc.
- In groups learners share their ideas with the whole class
- Reinforce learners' ideas by writing all common skin diseases on the board
- Brainstorm with learners on the causes of common skin diseases
- Learners talk about the ways they can prevent skin diseases and role play some of the prevention scenarios
