Learning Objectives

Indicator: B1.1.8.1.10 - Catch a flying ball above the head.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Demonstrate the correct hand position for catching a ball above the head, with fingers opened and thumbs and index fingers close to each other.
  2. Catch a ball thrown by a partner above the head using stretched arms and open hands.
  3. Throw a ball upward and step forward to catch it above the head.
  4. Apply the above-the-head catch skill in a simple ball game with a partner or small group.
  5. Show patience, concentration and fair play when practising catching with a partner.

Lead learners through warm-ups activities. Demonstrate how to catch a flying by stretching the arms forward, fingers opened with thumbs and index fingers close to each other. Let learners throw a ball and step forward to catch it.
Guide learners in pairs to throw and catch flying balls in turns whiles you observe and give feedback.
Organise handball, basketball or netball mini game for learners to apply the skills in real life situation with fun and enjoyment. End the lesson with cool down.
