Indicator: B1.2.7.2.4 - Read level-appropriate texts with prompting and support

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Read a level-appropriate short text aloud with teacher prompting and support when they meet difficult words
  • Use picture clues and the first letters of words to work out unfamiliar words with support
  • Point to each word as they read, matching spoken words to printed words
  • Read a short passage with growing confidence, pausing at full stops and taking a breath at commas
  • Answer simple questions about what they have just read, using the text to find the answers
