Learning Objectives
Indicator: B1.2.3.1.1 - Use common rhyming endings to decode simple words
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify and read at least 10 simple words that share a common rhyming ending (e.g., -at, -an, -ig).
- Change the initial sound of a word to create new rhyming words using a phonic slide (e.g., changing “mat” to “pat”).
- Sort a given set of words into groups based on their rhyming endings.
- Read aloud a list of rhyming words with accuracy and confidence.
- Form simple oral sentences using at least two rhyming words from the same word family.

- Introduce learners to simple word formation using the phonic slide to change the sound at the initial, medial and final positions of words, e.g. pat, mat, fat. - Have learners build on these rhyming endings. - In groups, let learners read out their words. - Have learners form sentences with these rhyming words.
