Learning Objectives
Indicator: B1.2.1.2.2 - Orally segment spoken syllables/words into individual sounds e.g. stop = s-t-o-p
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Clap the number of sounds they hear in simple spoken words such as am, pot and stop.
- Say each individual sound in a spoken word, in the correct order, using their fingers to count the sounds.
- Segment one-syllable words with two sounds (am = a-m), three sounds (pot = p-o-t) and four sounds (stop = s-t-o-p) when the teacher says the word aloud.
- Match a spoken word to the correct number of sound cards or counters placed on their desk.
- Work with a partner to segment a word into sounds, taking turns to say each sound clearly.
