Learning Objectives
Indicator: B1.2.1.2.1 - Orally blend two or three sounds together to make one syllable word, e.g. (a-sh = ash, b-i-n = bin)
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Say each individual sound (phoneme) correctly when shown a letter or letter pair, such as a, b, i, n, sh, c, o, t.
- Blend two sounds together to form a one-syllable word when the teacher says the sounds slowly, e.g. a-t = at, a-m = am, i-n = in.
- Blend three sounds together to form a one-syllable word, e.g. b-i-n = bin, c-o-t = cot, a-sh = ash.
- Identify the word formed when two or three sounds are blended, by pointing to the correct picture or object in the classroom.
- Work with a partner to blend sounds and say the resulting word aloud with confidence.
This lesson builds on the learners’ earlier work in Term 1 on handling books correctly (B1.2.1.1.1). They are not yet expected to segment words into individual sounds, as that comes in Term 2 (B1.2.1.2.2). This lesson only covers blending sounds together to make words.
