Learning Objectives

Indicator: B1.1.10.1.3

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least one member of their nuclear family and draw a picture of that member.
  2. Speak about their family member for at least two sentences using a simple sentence frame provided by the teacher.
  3. Present their drawing and talk about their family member to a partner, then to a small group, and finally to the whole class.
  4. Use a clear voice that others can hear when speaking before the class.
  5. Maintain eye contact and stand calmly while presenting to an audience.

This lesson builds on the previous week’s work where learners identified the audience and purpose of a presentation (B1.1.10.1.1) and generated and selected ideas about a topic (B1.1.10.1.2). Learners now move from planning to actually speaking out loud with confidence.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

- Have learners draw members of their nuclear family.
- Through think-pair-share strategy, let learners show and talk about their family members in pairs, smaller groups and as a class.
- Use probing questions to have learners talk more about their family members.
e.g. i. Who is this one? ii. Why did you draw him or her first?
- Encourage shy learners to speak.
