B1 English Language · Term 1, Week 7

Listening Comprehension

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B1.1.7.1.3 - Recognise and discuss characters in a story

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the characters they hear in a story read aloud by the teacher.
  2. Sort characters into main characters and minor characters, giving a reason for their choice.
  3. Describe what a main character does in the story using at least one complete sentence.
  4. Discuss characters in pairs or small groups, respectfully sharing their views with the class.
  5. Retell one thing a character said or did in the story to show they listened carefully.

This lesson builds on the sequence of events learners recognised in Week 7 (B1.1.7.1.2) and prepares them to describe pictures and objects in Week 8. Listening remains the core skill: learners will not yet be expected to write about characters, only to recognise and talk about them.
